Tell the UN: no food aid with Palantir
The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) feeds families in Gaza. To manage how it moves food, the WFP uses Palantir, a company accused of enabling the genocide there. This summer WFP signed a contract for five more years with Palantir, and it still refuses to explain what they signed up to.
On October 22, delegates meet in Rome, where WFP is based. Your email goes straight to WFP's leaders and to the European governments on its Executive Board. A few lines in your own words are much harder to ignore.
Some tips for writing your message (it takes 2 minutes):
1. Say who you are: Say where you live and why this matters to you.
2. Make the ask: Drop Palantir. For example: "Food aid for Gaza should not run on Palantir's software."
3. Say why, in one line. Pick one:
- The hypocrisy: WFP feeds families in Gaza while partnering with a company a UN expert links to the war there.
- The secrecy: WFP's own auditors flagged "high priority" privacy risks within Palantir's software. The contract was still renewed for five years, and its terms are secret.
4. Ask a question that WFP needs to answer. Pick one:
- How was this contract awarded, and were other providers considered?
- What data can Palantir's software access?
5. End with a request. "Please drop Palantir, answer these questions in public, and meet with WeMove Europe in Rome to discuss them"
Short, polite, firm. Three to five sentences is enough. Officials read messages that are respectful and specific.
