Send a letter to Commissioner Jørgensen

Right now the EU Commission is drafting laws that are supposed to force energy-hungry data centres to reveal how much energy and water they really use. But Big Tech’s lobbying risks weakening it beyond repair.

The final version could be released at any moment, but there’s still time for Commissioner Jørgensen to remove the Microsoft amendment, and force individual data centres to report emissions.

Some tips for writing your message:

Start with a greeting: e.g.: Dear Commissioner Jørgensen,

Introduce yourself briefly: Say who you are, where you're from, and why you care about this issue.

State your request directly: Remove the Microsoft amendment from the data centre ratings scheme, and force data centres to tell the truth about their energy and water use.

Make it personal: Say why you care and why this matters to you personally, e.g. if a data centre is being built near you or your energy bill is getting increasingly unaffordable.

Be respectful and clear: Strong arguments work better when they're polite.

Keep it short: 2-4 paragraphs are more than enough.

End with a hopeful tone: Show this is about creating positive change - forcing data centres to go green could help power the green transition in Europe.
