The courage of the people on the Gaza Flotilla forced European leaders to start discussing consequences for Israel's crimes.
Right now, government officials, diplomats and advisers across Europe are shaping the positions that ministers will take in the days ahead.
Before those decisions are finalised, send a message to the people preparing these decisions and demand: suspend Europe’s trade deal with Israel, known as the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
Here some tips on how to write your message:
- Explain why you are writing: Mention your concern about the ongoing violence in Gaza and the need for Europe to move beyond statements and symbolic measures. You can also refer to Sara's story and explain why her courage moved you to take action.
- Be clear about your demand: Call on your government to support the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
- Challenge symbolic measures: If Israeli ministers can be sanctioned, why is Europe still doing business as usual with the government they represent?
- Make it personal: Explain why this issue matters to you and why you believe the EU should act.
- Ask for a reply: Let them know you expect an answer and want to know what position they will take.
Tips:
- Keep your message short and direct.
- Use your own words whenever possible.
- Be respectful but firm.
- Sign with your name and country.
