Tell the EU: Don’t send our data to the US!
Trump is out of control. He’s siding with Putin, setting fire to international law and backing war criminals.
And now the EU is rushing to sign a deal that would give the US access to European databases that contain our facial scans and fingerprints.
There’s a genuine and terrifying risk that anyone who has been questioned by police at a peaceful protest could be flagged and targeted when they travel to the US.
And if Europe says no, Trump’s threatening to scrap visa free travel to the US for all Europeans. It’s blackmail, pure and simple.
But nothing is signed yet. Before it can go ahead, each EU country’s ambassador in Brussels gets a say, and they can still say no. If we can convince them, we have a real chance to stop this dangerous deal.
Will you send your ambassador an email telling them to reject this deal?
Some tips for writing your message:
- Introduce yourself briefly: Say who you are, where you're from, and why you care about this issue.
- State your request directly: Please oppose the EU-US data exchange framework agreement in its current form, and push for the Council to send it back to the Commission.
- Make it personal: Say why you care and why this matters to you personally. Personal stories resonate more than copy pasted text.
- Be respectful and clear: Strong arguments work better when they're polite.
- Keep it short: 2-4 paragraphs are more than enough.
- End with a hopeful tone: Europe must continue to be a champion of strong data protection.
- Sign with your name.
