Write your Member of the European Parliament
Can you contact a Member of the European Parliament in your country and ask them to pass tighter regulation on plastic pellet pollution?
Follow the simple instructions below and if you need some inspiration we have suggested some talking points.
Follow the instructions below:
- Be personal: we know personal messages are more impactful. Speak from the heart and explain why you care about a clean and safe environment.
- To the point: try to keep your message short.
- Ask for a response: It’s always worth making clear that you’d like them to consider your message and respond.
- Don’t forget to say thank you and sign your message.
Talking points:
- Companies are polluting our beaches with plastic pellets with impunity, suffocating ocean life and poisoning our water. Those tiny particles, used to produce all our everyday plastic items, are deadly. Fish mistake them for food and then microplastic ends up on our plates.
- These tiny plastic pellets are a nightmare to clean up. Worse yet, they hang around almost forever. We as taxpayers are paying the price for a poisonous plastic debt we didn’t create.
- Now we have a rare chance to turn things around. A new law could see the EU crack down on plastic dumps. Members of the European Parliament have the chance to show that they care about a safe environment and the health of citizens by voting for strong laws on plastic pellet pollution.
- Ask your MEP to support a law that applies measures to all operators, irrespective of the quantity of plastic pellets they’re handling and include mandatory certification and control measures for all pellet handlers and carriers.
