Email the Climate Commissioner to ask him to exclude fossil lobbyists from the European delegation to global climate talks! To make things easier for you, we have prepared a ready-made email text that you can adapt.

Here some tips:

Be personal: Share how the climate crisis affects you in your daily life, share how you feel about it and what your fears and hopes are. Personal stories always have the greatest impact.
Be simple and clear: A simple and accessible tone is often more incisive.
Keep it polite: Decision-makers are much more likely to respond to a friendly message: let Hoekstra know how important it is for you to exclude fossil lobbyists from the COP and that you will support him in doing so.
Ask for a commitment: Urge the Commissioner to make a commitment to categorically exclude fossil lobbyists from the European COP delegation. Make sure the Commissioner knows what you want him to do on your behalf.
Ask for a response: Make it clear that you’d like him to consider your message.

As Europeans, we are increasingly exposed to extreme weather events and we are concerned about our lives and those of our children.

The time has come for the EU - and for you as our representative - to start acting with the speed and ambition the crisis demands . This will certainly not happen if Big Oil and Gas lobbyists continue to be welcomed in our delegations to global climate meetings.

Would you ever invite tobacco lobbyists to a global health conference? Certainly not. So why should  you bring them to climate talks?

The EU should not bring oil and gas lobbyists to the next COP. It is no more reasonable to ask fossil fuel corporations how to quit fossil fuels than it would be to ask Phillip Morris how to quit smoking.

Since you have been nominated as Climate Commissioner for a second term, I ask you to show that you intend, if confirmed, to do your job with respect for European citizens.

I call on you to exclude fossil fuel lobbyists from the European delegation to the climate negotiations.
