Describe how important it is for you to uphold mandatory safety checks, transparency and labelling for all GMOs, old and new, to guarantee the safety of our food.
Note that, as it stands, the proposal from the Polish Presidency is incompatible with core EU principles of health protection as well as farmers’ and consumers’ rights. Deregulating GMOs benefits big corporations, not farmers or consumers.
Ask Ministers to defend the EU model of farming by making sure our EU legislation allows consumers to choose GMO-free food.
Mention that Belgium has long been a leader in safeguarding European food standards. Their ministers need to know Europeans want them to continue championing safe food as their stance wavering. It’s not too late for them to listen to citizens now, instead of corporate lobbyists.
Keep it polite. Politicians are much more likely to respond to a friendly message — let them know just how much support they have to reject the deregulation proposal.
Ask for a response. Make it clear that you’d like them to consider your message and respond to your email.
