Elon Musk’s platform, X, is spreading hate and Russian anti-democratic propaganda across Europe – in clear violation of EU law.
The European Commission is investigating, but claims it “lacks evidence” to be able to impose strong sanctions any time soon. That excuse no longer holds. Our community funded a report exposing 100+ illegal propaganda posts. Now, let’s deliver that evidence to those who can hold Musk to account.
Together, we’ll make sure they know: Europe is watching. Musk must be held accountable.
Talking points to include in your email:
- Share why this matters to you personally. Are you worried about disinformation, foreign influence, or hate speech online? Why do you think protecting democracy online is important?
- React to the evidence:
- Over 100 posts of Russian propaganda on X, proven illegal under EU law
- X was notified months ago but refused to remove them
- Evidence of a deliberate disinformation strategy targeting EU democracies
- Clear violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA)
- Make sure to include the link to our report: Flagged and Ignored: Testing X’s Response to EU Sanction Violations
- Tell EU regulators: Enforce the DSA. Fine Musk. Defend democracy. This is the first major test of the Digital Services Act. Let them know they must act quickly and set a strong precedent.
- Remind them of their duty to enforce EU law and defend democracy. Tell them the public is watching – and counting on them.
- Tell them why now is a crucial moment to act — do you want to live in a world where billionaires can violate the law and face no consequences?
- Call for courage and urgency. Make it clear you expect bold action without delays.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Make it personal – Explain why this issue matters to you. How do you feel about Big Tech ignoring EU laws? Are you worried about disinformation influencing the upcoming elections? The more personal your message, the stronger its impact.
- Be respectful and encouraging – A supportive tone will make EU regulators more likely to listen and take action.
- Keep your message short and to the point.
Thank you for taking action!
