Ban forever chemicals!
To Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President for European Green Deal at the European Commission
Petition
Before the end of your term we demand you take action against toxic chemicals in our environment, water and bodies. By fulfilling the goals in the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability through legal mechanisms. And specifically continue implementing the Restrictions Roadmap, the PFAS (‘Forever Chemicals’) phase out action plan and revise relevant product policies to ensure that the most harmful chemicals are phased out in consumer products and for professional uses. Why is this important?
Toxic cover-up: Chemical companies knew they were poisoning their staff and those living near their factories for decades, but hid the evidence!
Now employees are speaking out about how their jobs creating non-stick pans and waterproof clothing left them riddled with cancers and chronic pain. Their claims echoed by people living near the factories who got sick just from eating produce from their garden. [1]
But it’s not just them, it’s all of us. Scientists discovered that people across Europe are exposed to “alarmingly high” levels of toxic chemicals that could cause serious illnesses, such as cancer, infertility and developmental disorders in children. [2]
What’s more there is already a plan to phase out these dangerous forever chemicals in Europe, but it’s lying in a drawer gathering dust! [3] We need European leaders to prioritise putting this plan into action before they are up for re-election in 6 months.
The clock is ticking for EU leaders hoping to be re-elected in 2024 to act on important issues. Let them know that this is an issue people from across Europe care about. Add your voice to demand that chemical companies stop producing toxic ‘forever chemicals.’
