Protect the Environment in Scotland!
The Scottish Parliament
Petition
We urge you to vote in favour of the ecocide bill, proposed by Monica Lennon MSP, and introduce the crime of ecocide in Scots law, including with substantial sanctions designed to deter individuals in the positions of power from making decisions that directly result in the most severe cases of environmental harm.
Why is this important?
Last year we got the EU to hold those who destroy nature on a mass scale accountable, with fines and jail time. Now, it's our chance to protect the environment in Scotland!
An ecocide bill has been proposed in Scotland. [1] And you have the rare opportunity to influence the legislative process.
The Scottish government has opened up a live consultation until this Friday, February 9th to get your opinion. Anyone in the world can, and should, respond.
This is a super impactful and efficient way for you to speak up for nature. It takes less than 3 minutes. Complete the consultation now!
Making ecocide a crime would mean we take environmental protection seriously. Individuals or companies will be hit by massive fines and even lose their ability to operate in Europe. They could even end up in jail. All this could prevent environmental disasters in the future. [2]
Make the most of this rare opportunity to directly influence the legislative process and respond to the public consultation on a new ‘ecocide bill’ for Scotland. Help us make ecocide a crime in Scotland!

[2] It will end impunity for environmental criminals: violators could get up to 8 years in prison for acts comparable to ecocide. And it may also usher in a new era of environmental litigation, as the law encourages people to report environmental crimes. https://www.euractiv.com/section/energy-environment/news/eu-strikes-deal-on-new-ecocide-rules-to-send-polluters-in-jail/
