Guarantee women's safety online
To the European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the European Union
Petition
Ensure all women feel safe to speak out online. We ask that the European Union conduct research into and create a plan of action to end intimidation, hate and violence towards women online as part of the new Gender Equality Strategy for post-2025 and Roadmap for Women's Rights.
Why is this important?
Toxic misogyny is running rampant online. It’s so bad 52% of women are now too afraid to post their opinions. [1]
Men know they can get away with spewing hate, and algorithms spread it like wildfire, harming women and radicalising other men.
And it’s so dangerous: online hate is proven to cause offline harassment, violence and even mass murder. [2]
Meanwhile, the big tech companies turn a blind eye — more clicks and more advertising just means more money to them.
But for the first time the EU is about to appoint someone responsible for women’s rights. Let’s make sure they’re focussed on making the internet safe for women by putting it on their agenda now.
Do you agree women deserve to be free of hatred online? Add your name to the petition now to tell the EU to take this far-right threat seriously.
