Defend protest rights in Europe!
To the European Commission and the German government
Petition
We call on the German government and the European Commission to immediately halt the deportation proceedings against the four protesters who took part in a peaceful demonstration in Berlin.
None of them has been convicted of any crime. Deporting EU citizens and residents for exercising their fundamental right to protest violates the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and sets a dangerous precedent.
We demand:
- That the deportation orders be withdrawn immediately;
- That the rights of EU citizens to free movement and peaceful assembly be upheld;
- That political pressure does not override legal safeguards and due process.
Why is this important?
European Union citizens can now be deported from Germany for protesting in support of Palestine.
Four young people — including three EU citizens — are facing deportation after joining a peaceful protest against Israel’s war on Gaza in Berlin.
None of them has been convicted of a crime. There’s no real evidence. Yet they’ve all been ordered to leave Germany. [1]
Internal emails reveal that even Berlin’s own immigration officials objected. They called the deportations unjustified and unlawful. But the government overruled them — and pushed forward. [2]
Cooper is a human rights student from the U.S., just months from graduating. Their books are still open on a desk in Berlin. Kasia, a Polish artist, hasn’t lived in Poland since he was ten. His friends, his community, his work — all rooted in Berlin.
Right now, they could be packing bags, saying goodbye, wondering where they’ll sleep next week.
This is repression. A warning. A test. These four aren’t just being punished. They’re being used to send a message: protest, and you’re out.
Members of the European Parliament are demanding answers. But it’s public pressure that can break the silence and force this onto the European agenda. [3]
