We won’t let climate-deniers rest

To the European Commissioner for Climate Wopke Hoekstra, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union
Petition
Don't back down from plans to cut European greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, in line with science.
Why is this important?
Above, an image of flooded streets and submerged cards in a European city caused by the disastrous Storm Boris
It took a 15 year old girl, seven years ago, striking from school to fully ignite a European movement to end the climate crisis. Following Greta Thunberg, hundreds of thousands of us, from all corners of Europe, marched, took action and voted for a safer climate.
Together, we won commitments from our leaders to protect our nature, our air, our water - and to cut emissions by 90% by 2040. [1] That’s the difference between a future where our children inherit thriving forests and safe summers – or one where extreme heat and floods become the norm.
Now, some in the European institutions want to dismantle those hard-won gains. [2] They’re ready to take the green path we fought for and lead us backwards towards a polluting and fossil fuel hungry industrial Europe, undoing years of progress.
But most people - your neighbours, relatives, friends, you and I - still want climate action. [3] We still want to swim in clean rivers, breathe fresh air, and spend our summers in thriving green spaces that haven’t been ravaged by wildfires or floods.
Let’s build a thousands strong petition now so that by the time our leaders return from the summer break we’ve made clear that any attempt to roll back action on climate change will be met by fierce opposition.
