Name storms after climate culprits
To the EUMETNET (the network of 33 European National Meteorological & Hydrological Services)
Petition
The people and corporations most responsible for climate catastrophe need to be held accountable for the devastation their actions cause. We call on the EUMETNET to name storms after individuals and corporations with the highest climate emission contributions.
Why is this important?
The world’s wealthiest 10% have caused two thirds of global warming since 1990. [1] The people most impacted by climate change are the least likely to have caused it. [2]
People in Jamaica are recovering from one of the worst hurricanes on record, and people in China faced a summer of deadly floods. [3] [4] While these and countless other communities try to rebuild from the impact of climate change, the wealthy individuals most responsible for this destruction stay in the shadows.
It’s time we put these names in the headlines for their real impact - destroying the planet and people's lives. Naming storms after billionaires and corporations will make it impossible for them to hide their complicity from the public.
