EU, don’t deport people to unsafe countries!
To the European Parliament
Petition
We are calling on Members of the European Parliament to vote against the Safe Third Country file which would deny asylum to people seeking safety in the EU and allow forced deportations to unsafe countries they have never set a foot in.
Why is this important?
The EU wants to copy the most dangerous immigration rule. And an EU insider has asked for help from this community to stop it.
Australia’s new asylum system has just swallowed its first person - deported to notorious Nauru island, cut off from the world, with their safety at serious risk. [1] This is what “safe third country” really means.
Now the EU wants to copy it. If we don’t act now, the next victims could be people seeking safety in Europe.
In a week, our MEPs will vote on new asylum rules. Governments could send people to so-called “safe” countries they may have never set foot in. [2] This vote is coming fast - and we know it will be tight.
If passed, these rules would shred refugee protection. People fleeing danger would be denied protection, simply because a deal has been signed with a country labeled as “safe”.
This is not a done deal…yet.
Right now, MEPs are deciding how they will vote - and pressure from constituents does move them. If enough of us speak out, especially in the final days before a vote, politicians will listen.
Help block this law and protect the right of people fleeing persecution to seek safety in Europe!
