Healthy forests are our right!
To the European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the European Union
Petition
Scientists agree that protecting forests means protecting people. Trees clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and sustain the food we grow. But they are vanishing at record speed, pushing nature and our future towards a dangerous breaking point.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Europe has a real chance to change course through its forest protection law (EUDR). A landmark law that could save 50 million trees in its first year.
Yet destructive industries and foreign interests, including the United States, want politicians to kill it. Many European leaders are giving in. They are ready to cut protections designed to defend nature, and our health.
European leaders: protect forests, protect people and enforce the EUDR.
Why is this important?
Nature shouldn’t pay the price for industry. Every ruined forest, every polluted river. It's time to protect what’s ours.
There is a law that could hold big coffee, rubber, palm oil, and other industries accountable for destroying forests worldwide.Â
But some European governments are trying to weaken the law. They’re putting short-term profits above forests - and our safety, stable climate and cost of living.
We have a chance. The European Commission’s president, von der Leyen, can reject the watered-down deal which sacrifices more forests. She can stand behind her original proposal.Â
The Commission’s president cares about her reputation. A big mass of citizens’ support will give her the strength to reclaim control over her own proposal to save the forests - before she makes a move.
The people’s movement for forests has called on our community to urgently join them. Our demand to Ursula von der Leyen is to stand as a brave leader in defense of nature. The more support she gets from the people, the greater the chances of a genuinely strong law passing.
