No more lower paychecks for women!
To Commissioner for Equality Hadja Lahbib and Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification, Valdis Dombrovskis
Petition
We call on you to fully protect the integrity and ambition of the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
Specifically, we urge the Commission to:
- Reject any attempt to weaken or delay the implementation of pay transparency rules through the upcoming “Omnibus” simplification package or related initiatives.
- Keep strong requirements on salary transparency, reporting obligations, and enforcement mechanisms for companies.
- Ensure that all workers across the EU can access clear, comparable information about pay levels and pay gaps within their workplace.
- Safeguard the right of workers to be informed about pay ranges and to challenge unjustified pay differences without retaliation.
At a time when gender equality is still far from reality, the EU must not give in to pressure from corporate lobby groups seeking to keep pay discrimination hidden.
Why is this important?
Would you accept working for free? Probably not.
On average, women earn around 11% less than men. That’s like working for free for one month every year. [1]
At this pace, this pay gap would be closed by 2104. [2]
But the EU has a new law to shine a light on what happens behind closed doors. [3] For the first time, workers would be able to see pay ranges. Companies would have to report their gender pay gaps. And unequal pay could no longer be quietly hidden away.
Because inequality survives in silence, and transparency breaks that silence.
Now, just as this law is about to make a real difference, powerful corporate lobby groups are trying to water it down. To keep pay secret and their reputation clean. [4]
If they succeed, the law will lose its power before people even get to feel it.
This is a rare moment where change is actually within reach.
This law is supposed to be adopted by all member states in a few weeks from now. For every day it's delayed, it means more women working for free, and more risk for it to be weakened until useless.
Sign today to conquer equal pay for all!
