Europe can become energy independent, but only if we stop funding fossil fuels and invest in clean energy at home.
We call on the EU to:
- phase out fossil fuel subsidies
- invest in renewable energy, grids and storage
- protect households from price shocks
Why is this important?
A war thousands of kilometres away decides how much you pay on your energy bill.
Why is this happening again?
This is Europe’s second energy crisis in just four years - first Russia, now Iran. [1] Every time there’s a crisis, oil and gas prices jump. And a few weeks later, higher bills land in people’s homes because Europe still runs on imported fossil fuels. [2]
Right now, European leaders are in Cyprus deciding how to respond to this energy shock. [3]
They can keep spending billions on short-term fixes that don’t last. Or they can fix the root of the problem: invest in clean energy made in Europe - and stop relying on fuels we don’t control. [4]
But while they decide, fossil fuel lobbyists are in the room with them - pushing to keep us dependent on them.
