EU: Don’t send our data to the US!
To the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Member States of the EU
Petition
Under a new agreement, the EU would open up European police databases to the US, handing over huge amounts of sensitive personal data, including fingerprints and facial images, on millions of Europeans, in exchange for keeping visa-free travel.
We call on you to:
- Withdraw and/or reject the Enhanced Border Security Partnership agreement in its current form.
- Reject any agreement that does not properly safeguard the private data of people in Europe
Why is this important?
Imagine attending a peaceful protest, and your fingerprints and facial images ending up in Trump’s hands. [1]
Right now, the EU is quietly working on a deal that could give Trump and the US access to sensitive police databases across Europe. These databases contain information about completely innocent people like you and me, including protesters, activists, and asylum seekers.
If the EU doesn’t give in, the US Government is threatening to remove visa-free travel to the US.
Giving Trump access to our data in Europe, could put anyone who speaks out against him at risk. Trump has already arrested - and even defended the murder of - protesters in the US. [2]
Civil liberties organisations and some politicians are sounding the alarm. One MEP has called it “a clear case of blackmail”. [3]
But so far, it’s received almost no attention at all. Few articles in newspapers, barely any social media posts. Because once people across Europe learn what’s happening, public outrage could spread fast. And that pressure could stop this deal.
Tell the EU: NO to US blackmail. NO to giving Trump access to our fingerprints and facial images.
