Stop rogue AI tech
To the European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the European Union
Petition
We call on you to strengthen safeguards in AI to protect our data and to legislate a pause in the development of the most dangerous AI systems until their builders can prove, to independent evaluators, that they are safe. AI systems should not threaten our jobs, livelihoods and safety.
Why is this important?
A company got hacked. The really shocking part? It was hacked by an AI system with “little or no human guidance”. [1]
It sounds like the plot of a sci-fi film. But this is real, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Technology experts have warned about the dangers of rapid AI progress. [2] It has already impacted real jobs and lives across Europe. [3] This hacking case shows that AI agents can behave in ways we cannot control or predict.
Right now, technology is advancing way faster than the rules are being written. Without safety measures and restrictions in place - anything could happen, fast.
No company should be allowed to build systems that reshape the job market or threaten our safety without showing their work. Without taking our safety seriously.
Decision-makers can ignore a small number of scientists, but it's harder to ignore us. We can't let AI companies change our lives for the worse.
Sign the petition to tell the EU: pause training the most powerful AI systems until we know how to keep people and their livelihoods safe.
