Stop ticket companies from ripping off fans
To the European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the European Union
Petition
We call on you to use the upcoming Digital Fairness Act to keep online ticketing platforms in check and help ensure fans are protected from fraud and price gouging, by:
- Introduce a binding EU law that makes re-selling tickets above face value unlawful
- Issue fines linked to global, annual turnover rather than fixed amounts and introduce harsher penalties for repeated non-compliance
- Quicker, easier process for requesting take-down on false or illegal ticket sales, and take urgent action to address false ticket listings where a ticket may not exist when sold.
Why is this important?
Your favourite artist is going on tour. You love their music and can’t wait to see them live. But when you check online, tickets are resold for hundreds, if not thousands, of euros above the original price.
Online ticket sales are out of control. Seats at the World Cup final were resold for an average price of over 13000 USD. [1] Tickets to the Italy Winter Olympics were listed at 600% their original price. [2] Fans are even sold tickets that don’t exist. [3]
Some countries have restrictions in place. But with no overall EU law, fans are still at risk every time we want to see an artist or a sports team we love.
The EU has the power to rein in these profit-hungry ticket platforms. They could strengthen rules and introduce stricter punishment in the upcoming Digital Fairness Act.
Huge artists like Rammstein are calling for stronger rules [4]. Big ticketing giants like ViaGogo are preparing for a fight. But the voices of thousands of people like you and me can get the EU to listen to fans, not profit-hungry platforms.
Sign now to stop ticket platforms exploiting fans - so that we can all continue enjoying live events.
