Defend the International Criminal Court, block Trump’s sanctions!
To the European Commission
Petition
We ask you to immediately apply the EU Blocking Statute to protect the International Criminal Court from U.S. sanctions. This would prevent European companies from having to comply with sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump on the International Criminal Court.
Why is this important?
Imagine, you want to pay for groceries but your bank card stops working. You get locked out of your email. Your insurance company stops providing cover for your doctor’s check up. And why? Because you’ve dedicated your life to bringing the world’s worst war criminals to justice. [1]
This is happening right now, as Trump is stepping up his attacks on judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC). They’re being hit with sanctions after issuing an arrest warrant for Trump’s friend, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, over his war crimes in Gaza.
Trump’s actions are threatening the very foundations of international law and the rules-based order.
The EU has a way to fight back. They could activate the so-called 'blocking statute' which would allow European companies to stop going along with US sanctions. [2]
The Dutch government and several MEPs are begging the Commission to act. [3] But they’re dragging their feet.[4] Pressure from the public could change this.
Sign the petition to tell Ursula von der Leyen and the EU Commission: Protect the ICC’s judges, activate the blocking statute now.
