Protect the Global Sumud Flotilla!

To the leaders of the European Union and its Member States
Petition
We call on the European Union and its Member States to:
- Urgently demand that Israel refrain from violence or intimidation against the Global Sumud Flotilla and its passengers, in full respect of international law.
- Guarantee that the Global Sumud Flotilla is allowed to reach Gaza and deliver its humanitarian cargo without obstruction.
- Act to protect the civilians on board, including European citizens, and ensure their safe passage.
- Call on EU Member States to provide escorts - through their navies, coast guards or other means - to safeguard the vessels, their vital supplies and the passengers on board.
- Support measures that secure the delivery of vital supplies and uphold the right of humanitarian relief to Gaza.
- Hold Israel accountable if this peaceful mission is once again blocked or attacked.
Why is this important?
Right now, 50 ships are crossing the Mediterranean.
On board are people from 44 countries - doctors, carpenters, students - many of them Europeans. They carry flour, medicine and water filters. Supplies that would mean a chance of survival for people in Gaza.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is the largest citizen mission ever to Gaza. [1]
Why? Because governments have failed. For six months, Israel has blocked aid from entering Gaza, while its soldiers killed more than 1,400 Palestinians searching for the little food that trickles in. [2]
The flotilla has just set sail from Barcelona, Tunis and Sicily. And next week, it could reach Gaza - or be seized. Israel’s minister has already threatened to imprison the passengers as “terrorists”. [3]
The clock is ticking. Civilians should not have to risk their lives, doing what our governments should have done long ago.
Every signature we add is another pair of eyes watching over the mission. Flotilla organisers say this is what they need most: visibility.
Alone, these ships are vulnerable. With thousands of us behind them, they sail with a shield of witnesses - raising the political cost for European leaders to remain silent when European lives are at risk. [4] Add your name to demand safe passage for the flotilla!
