Keep Big Tech Accountable!
To the European Commission, especially to President von der Leyen, Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, and Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen
Petition
We call on you to:
- Reject any weakening or deregulation via the proposed Digital Omnibus of:
- the Digital Services Act (DSA);
- the Digital Markets Act (DMA);
- and the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act).
- Maintain full enforcement and timelines of the AI Act, including obligations for high-risk AI systems and transparency measures.
- Protect citizens’ privacy, online safety, democratic rights, and fair competition, resisting any industry pressure to dilute these safeguards.
Europeans demand strict, enforceable digital rules - not watered-down laws. Protect our rights, safety, and democracy online. Don’t bend to Big Tech!
Why is this important?
For the first time ever, Big Tech lost.
EU authorities fined Google and Elon Musk for breaking Europe’s digital rules - rules designed to protect people from scams, abuse, and unchecked corporate power. [1]
Democracy wins. We all live happily ever after. Or at least this is how it should end.
Now, Big Tech is panicking. And fighting back. Trump even publicly attacked the EU fine on Musk’s X, calling it “nasty” and warning Europe to “be very careful”. [2]
Our partners have recently proven that powerful lobbyists are pushing behind closed doors for an “omnibus” law. [3] Basically, a text designed to quietly weaken the protections that made these fines possible in the first place. They call it “simplification”. In reality, it’s a rollback - written to protect billionaires’ profits, not people. [4]
The tantrum Big Tech is throwing shows just how much is at stake. Because these rules are the only thing standing between corporate power and people’s safety.
Together, we’ve already shown that citizens can take on tech giants - and win. [5] Now we must make sure this victory isn’t undone in the shadows.
Tell EU decision-makers: don’t water down Big Tech rules. Protect people, not billionaires!
