Stop Hungary’s ban on Pride!

To the European Commission and Council of the European Union
Petition
We call on you to:
- Publicly and unanimously support Pride, LGBTQ+ Hungarians, and the right to peaceful protest.
- Fine Orbán’s government over his recent law, which is de facto banning Pride's marches, and pursue a suspension of the law through the EU’s Court of Justice.
- Enforce Article 7 to strip Orbán of his EU Council vote due to a serious and persistent breach of EU values.
- Request interim measures from the Court of Justice to suspend Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ propaganda law via case C-769/22 or a new infringement procedure.
No EU country should be allowed to systematically discriminate against their LGBTQ+ community and criminalise peaceful protesters. It’s time to hold Hungary accountable and stand up for freedom, dignity, and equality for all.
Why is this important?
Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán has made banning Pride his mission. [1] Events where, for decades, Hungarians have bravely upheld not only LGBTQ+ rights, but also their hopes for a society rooted in solidarity, freedom, and love.
Sadly, this is not an isolated act — it's a major escalation in a years-long crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights in Hungary. [2] By attempting to silence civil society in all its diversity, Orban is isolating Hungary from democratic Europe and aligning more and more with authoritarian regimes like Russia. [3]
But now is not the time to be silent. This isn’t just Hungary’s crisis — it’s a test for all of Europe: human rights, dignity and equality know no borders.
More than 20 Member States have already urged the European Commission and Council to fine Orbán and get him to reverse his ban, and over 60 Members of the European Parliament have demanded that the EU shows visible support for Hungarian Pride. [4]
But so far, the EU has failed to act to protect Hungary’s LGBTQ+ community. [5] With Pride events just days away, it’s time to speak with one voice:
Pride is not a threat. Love is not propaganda. And we will not accept this ban.
Tell the EU: defend Pride and hold Hungary accountable!
