To the European Parliament
Petition
We call on our representatives to finally enforce strict anti-corruption and transparency rules in the European Parliament, including:
- Banning side jobs (paid or unpaid) with organisations that lobby the EU.
- Establishing an independent ethics body with real powers to investigate and sanction misconduct.
- Making transparency truly mandatory—lawmakers should only meet with organisations registered on the EU's transparency register.
- Closing the revolving door—extend the cooling-off period so former MEPs cannot become lobbyists.
Why is this important?
Another corruption scandal is rocking the halls of power in Brussels. Several members of the European Parliament are accused of accepting bribes from Chinese tech giant Huawei in exchange for promoting their interests. [1]
It's blatant bribery at the heart of our democratic institutions—a shocking betrayal of public trust. Sounds familiar?
Just two years ago, we saw politicians arrested for pocketing cash to favour Qatar in Europe. [2] That scandal—Qatargate—outraged us. And together, we took action.
Thousands of us flooded the inboxes of EU lawmakers, demanding tougher rules against corruption and shady lobbying. They listened—sort of. The reforms they passed weren’t nearly strong enough, but without public pressure, they wouldn’t have acted at all. [3]
Now, with the second corruption scandal driving media attention [4], politicians can’t hide. They won’t fix this on their own–but they will have to respond if we make enough noise.
Let’s show our representatives we’re still watching and won’t let them get away with cosmetic changes anymore. Add your name now to demand real transparency in EU politics.
