Protect our democracy against Elon Musk’s X
To the European Commission, to Henna Virkkunen, the Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy.
Petition
We urge you to:
- Enforce the Digital Services Act (DSA) to protect our democracies by ensuring social media platforms uphold their responsibilities in combating disinformation and safeguarding fair democratic discourse.
- Launch an investigation into X’s violations of the DSA and other European rules and impose sanctions to prevent the spread of extremist disinformation that endangers the integrity of European elections and democratic norms.
Why is this important?
He helped Trump come to power again. Now the billionaire Elon Musk wants more “Trumps” in Europe.
Elon Musk hosting a live stream on X with Alice Weidel, the head of Germany’s far-right AfD party—a group infamous for its divisive and extremist rhetoric—is not just a conversation. [1] It’s a calculated move to amplify anti-EU propaganda, disrupt democratic norms, and undermine the fairness of the upcoming elections in the EU.
This move violates the very principles of the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) which holds social media platforms accountable for combating disinformation and protecting fair democratic debate. By amplifying extremist voices, X (formerly known as Twitter) is flouting these rules in plain sight. We must demand that the EU Commission enforces the DSA and imposes sanctions on X for endangering our democratic values.
Momentum is building. Leaders across Europe, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have voiced strong opposition to Musk’s actions. [2] Strengthen the call of these leaders and make sure the EU knows its citizens don't want our elections to be determined by social media billionaires.
Will you add your voice to save our democracy?
