Stop the destruction of the Amazon rainforest!
To Banco Santander
Petition
Santander should stop financing the exploration of oil and gas in Amazonia as well as halt investments in oil pipelines. The bank needs to act in accordance with its own climate pledges and implement an Amazonia-wide exclusion for problematic oil and gas investments, exit deals and relationships that cause destruction, and invest in ecological, Indigenous-supported economic development in the region.
Why is this important?
Oil pipelines are cutting right through the lush greenery of the Amazon rainforest, causing oil spills that poison rivers, kill wildlife, and force Indigenous communities out of their homes. [1]
Who's fueling this disaster? Santander bank, one of the biggest backers of oil projects in the Amazon. [2] Despite recently making a green pledge to protect the climate, it’s bankrolling the destruction of one of our planet's most vital ecosystems - a blatant contradiction to its commitments.
In just two weeks, Santander's top brass will gather for their annual shareholder meeting. The CEO will want to present the bank in the best possible light. It’s our chance to crash the party and speak truth to power: We’ll deliver this petition and talk directly to the shareholders about Santander’s dirty business in the Amazon.
Will you add your voice and demand Santander put an end to oil projects in the Amazon?
